Roots is a series of benches that crawl up from the soil inHólminn in Elliðaárdalur. The project was inspired by thehistory of the forest which was planted by employees of thepower station in Elliðaárdalur in Reykjavík 70 years ago in order to give back to nature after having been using it’s energy and resources. The benches reflect on the natural andman-made root systems. The way trees nourish each otherand communicate with their complex root systems, was alsoan inspiration for us. It made us think of the forest as a community. We felt that this could be reflected in the man-made root system built for humans, the pipelines underneath our cities, that sustain our community.
